My Journey and Qualifications
Hi, I’m Judith Halbach, a non-medical practitioner specialising in psychotherapy with a private practice in Cologne-Ehrenfeld. Since 2020, I have been supporting people on their journey of healing and personal growth through psychotherapy, coaching and couples therapy. In my work, I offer you a safe space and a pace that your nervous system can manage.
It gives me great joy to be there when my clients begin to feel more at ease in their own skin, to enjoy their lives more and to form honest, joyful and nurturing relationships. I’m very grateful that people place their trust in me to accompany them on part of their journey.
As a therapist who is aware of various forms of discrimination and structural injustices as well as queer-affirming, I prioritise creating a safe, non-judgemental space for all people and relationship models.
Below, I’ll outline my professional background and qualifications.
My Career Path
My career path is not a straight line. Instead, I have taken detours, discovered new passions, undertaken new professional trainings and reoriented myself. These varied experiences enable me to understand different ways of living and working environments.
I initially studied Business Administration at the University of Cologne, graduating in 2011. Afterwards, I worked for several years as a project manager in market research and online retail.
2014 was a turning point for me: I underwent therapy myself and realised that I wanted a career change. In 2015, I began training as a Vinyasa Yoga teacher – I wanted to accompany people on their journey of self-discovery and help them find balance.
To better pursue this goal, I began my training in Humanistic Psychotherapy at Thalamus in Essen in 2019. I was trained in Client-Centred Psychotherapy developed by Carl Rogers, as well as in Gestalt Therapy. In 2020, I passed the examination set by the Cologne Public Health Authority (Gesundheitsamt) to become a Non-medical Practitioner in Psychotherapy (Heilpraktikerin für Psychotherapie). Since then, I have been supporting clients in emotionally challenging situations and periods of change in their lives.
At the same time, I worked in an editorial office from 2016 to 2023. There, I managed an online project on the prevention of radicalisation for the Federal Agency for Civic Education and was also responsible for team management. This period sharpened my understanding of social and political contexts – a perspective that continues to inform my therapeutic work to this day: I do not view mental health in isolation, but rather within the context of social and societal pressures.
In 2023, I began training in Integrative Couples Therapy at the North German Couples Academy (Norddeutsche Paarakademie) in Hamburg. Since then, I have been supporting couples in resolving their conflicts and on their journey towards an honest and fulfilling relationship. Since the end of 2023, I have been working entirely independently in my own practice.
I am currently expanding my practice with a three-year training programme in Somatic Experiencing, a body-oriented approach to processing traumatic experiences.
To ensure my work remains professionally sound and reflected, I regularly attend supervision sessions and engage in collegial intervision within two peer groups. Beyond this, I am also in constant professional dialogue with psychological psychotherapists, alternative practitioners specialising in psychotherapy, couples therapists and professionals from related fields.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time in nature, reading a lot, going to concerts or making music myself. I take a keen interest in social, political and psychotherapeutic issues, both professionally and personally.
